Whether you were just recently diagnosed with infertility or have been experiencing it for years, it can feel isolating and painful. Friends or family may not understand and may say things that hurt. Your relationship with your partner may also be affected. You may feel like it is taking over your life. As a former infertility patient, I can truly understand and relate, but I also know that your story is your own and unique. I am here to listen without judgment and to help you navigate this difficult journey. You no longer have to do this alone.
We live in a highly competitive and ambitious area, and you may feel that you always have to be "on" at work. This can lead to stress, burnout, fatigue, indifference, and negative effects on your physical and mental health. What started out as problems at work can quickly escalate to feelings of dread, avoidance, procrastination, inability to focus, irritability, and anger. Often work and career related concerns spill over to mental health concerns, and you may need an experienced therapist to discern which is which and treat them accordingly. As a licensed professional counselor with a previous career in human resources and recruiting, I am uniquely qualified to listen to your career and work related concerns, to help you identify your goals, and to create a roadmap to achieve your definition of success both personally and professionally.
Perhaps you have already inquired with your doctor but felt that your symptoms were dismissed. You may have started to research online only to find conflicting resources. Your physical appearance may be changing. You may also be experiencing other life transitions, such as an empty nest, caring for your elderly parents, or work milestones such as a promotion or retirement. Every woman experiences this stage differently, and there are no wrong reactions. Working with a therapist can help you gain more confidence and to feel supported as you navigate these changes.
By investing in our physical and mental well-being, we can better take care of others and be at our best in our daily lives. True self care, however, goes beyond a day at the spa or an advertised quick fix. It takes time, and you do not have to do it alone. I will partner with you to identify the areas in your life that are causing distress and burnout, and will work with you on setting goals and learning skills that can increase your time and energy, expand your compassion for yourself and others, clarify your values and purpose, and to transition from feeling overwhelmed and exhausted to feeling validated and empowered.
I wish I had spoken up more during my childhood and early adult years, as I experienced and witnessed others being mistreated based solely on their appearances. I started to find my voice after becoming a working adult and realizing that staying silent meant that I could be complicit in decisions such as hiring managers refusing to interview candidates whose names were "different." I continued to learn how to speak up after I left the corporate world and completed my master's program in counseling with a focus on multiculturalism and social justice. My earlier life experiences increased my empathy and desire to work with those whose voices have not always been heard- whether it be due to your race, ethnicity, religion, age, class, gender, sexual preference or any other factor. I also understand that it may be difficult to seek help based on your cultural beliefs. If you are experiencing stressors related to your identity and how you are perceived and/or treated in the world, it would be a privilege to work with you.
Stress can take a major physical toll on your body, which means that exercise, diet, and other factors can impact your mental health as well. We will review your mental health as well as physical health symptoms holistically, and identify ways to strengthen both.
